Wondering what you and your dog can do for fun while vacationing in Gatlinburg?  Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on most of the hiking trails in the park.  Here are some fun alternatives:

Enjoy the National Park with your pet!You can still enjoy the Park!
Great Smoky Mountains National Park allows leashed dogs on two trails: the Gatlinburg Trail and the Oconaluftee River Trail.  The Gatlinburg Trail starts in Gatlinburg and follows the Little Pigeon River for 2 miles through hemlock forest to Sugarlands Visitor Center.  I haven’t yet checked out the Oconaluftee River Trail, which is in Cherokee, NC, but it sounds just as nice, following the Oconaluftee River for 1.5 miles.
In addition to these two dog-friendly trails, dogs are allowed in picnic areas, campgrounds, and roads (on a leash of course).  Some of the quieter areas (especially in the off-season) like Greenbrier or Cosby may be nice roads to walk a dog on.

A Walk in the Woods
is a Nature Guide Service that offers guided walks and hikes anywhere from 1 hr to a few days.  I was excited to see that they offer a dog-friendly nature walk: Pooch and Pal Trek!  For $20 you and your canine companion can enjoy a 1 hour walk with a naturalist on the Gatlinburg Trail

Check out a City Park
In addition to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville also have their own City Parks.  Leashed dogs are welcome at all parks.
