The pet-lovers out there are always wondering what you can do in Gatlinburg and bring your pets along! Gatlinburg is becoming more and more pet-friendly, so every time we find somewhere else you can take your pet along, we like to let you know! Here are several places you can go with your furry friends!

Read our blog about our pet outing on the Gatlinburg Trail! The Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Great Smoky Mountains National Park allows leashed dogs on two trails: the Gatlinburg Trail and the Oconaluftee River Trail.  The Gatlinburg Trail starts in Gatlinburg and follows the Little Pigeon River for 2 miles through hemlock forest to Sugarlands Visitor Center.  I haven’t yet checked out the Oconaluftee River Trail, which is in Cherokee, NC, but it sounds just as nice, following the Oconaluftee River for 1.5 miles.
In addition to these two dog-friendly trails, dogs are allowed in picnic areas, campgrounds, and roads (on a leash of course).  Some of the quieter areas (especially in the off-season) like Greenbrier or Cosby may be nice roads to walk a dog on.

For those of you who can’t bear to leave your dog at home, but do have at least a few hours of your vacation where you can’t take your pet with you, a doggie day care may be just the thing! Or perhaps you made your reservations last-minute, and you didn’t manage to find pet-friendly lodging. You can still bring your best friend with you! These day-cares also offer overnight lodging for your pet!
The Barker Lounge“Most Importantly, we’re not your standard kennel. We’ve gone to great lengths to ensure it! Our daycare and boarding programs have been designed not to simply “occupy” our four-legged guests, but rather to enrich their lives mentally, physically and socially! All of our OVERNIGHT BOARDING guests participate in ALL-DAY-DAYCARE every day while they’re with us! The only time they are ever alone is to eat and sleep … that’s it!”
Barks and Recreation– “Welcome to Barks & Recreation where we provide a loving, comfortable, and safe Smoky Mountains getaway for your pooch. We offer an open, home-like environment, with indoor and outdoor play areas. Doggies can also enjoy playtime with their friends, if preferred. Just Fer Paws and The Comedy Canines– “In the heart of the Smoky Mountains you will find a unique group of dogs.  A group of rescues that have been trained to educate and entertain.  You will find a dog trainer with years of experience that can help you with your pet.  A small boarding facility where your dog can have as much fun as you do on vacation.”
